The Proton Therapy Center in Prague is a new clinical facility that will use the most advanced diagnostic, planning and radiation techniques for the treatment of tumor diseases. Construction of the Center was started in March 2009 and will be completed in mid-2013. The Proton Therapy Center plans to treat its very first patient in the second half of the year 2012. The Center will become fully operational in the year 2013, becoming the first facility of its kind in Central and Eastern Europe. Once it is fully operating, the facility will be open 6 days a week with two shifts. The overall annual capacity will be 2,000 to 2,500 patients. Apart from its basic therapeutic function, the Proton Therapy Center will also be a place for graduate and post-graduate education and training, as well as the training of healthcare professionals and their scientific growth.
